Andy Brown is an Australia-based, BAFTA and VES-nominated Visual Effects Supervisor with over 30 years’ experience designing and supervising VFX for film and episodic.
Working primarily on the production side, Andy supervises VFX from early development and pre-production through the shoot, post-production and final delivery. Recent work includes The Survivors (Netflix) as VFX Supervisor, three seasons of La Brea (NBCUniversal) as Production VFX Supervisor, and Deadloch (Amazon) as On-Set VFX Supervisor.
His expertise spans script breakdowns, VFX methodologies, budgeting and bidding, previs and postvis, VFX art direction and look development, on-set supervision, virtual production, creatures and environments, through to post-production and final delivery.
Andy was the VFX HOD on the Australian shoot of Dora and the Lost City of Gold (Paramount), spending six months embedded with the production on the Gold Coast before supervising Mill Film’s work on the film from its newly established Adelaide facility. His broader studio experience includes Black Panther (Marvel Studios), World Trade Center (Paramount), The Great Gatsby and Sucker Punch (Warner Bros.), Moulin Rouge! and Australia (Fox), as well as Holy Smoke and Zhang Yimou’s Hero and House of Flying Daggers.
Before moving fully to the production side, Andy spent more than two decades at Animal Logic and later worked as a VFX Supervisor at Method Studios and Mill Film, building a background in compositing, design and VFX art direction that continues to inform his approach to supervision.
Over the course of his career, Andy has collaborated with filmmakers including Zhang Yimou, Jane Campion, Gore Verbinski, Baz Luhrmann, Oliver Stone and Zack Snyder.

Recent work includes The Survivors (Netflix), three seasons of La Brea (NBCUniversal), and Deadloch Season 2 (Amazon).
His approach is practical and design-led, collaborating with directors and HODs to develop visual ideas and find the best way to achieve them. Wherever possible, he looks for practical in-camera solutions to keep the VFX grounded in reality, building out from what was captured on the day.
When there’s a creature in the scene, he gives the actors something physical to interact with and directors something they can direct on set.
Working with Zhang Yimou and Hong Kong stunt teams on Hero and House of Flying Daggers had a lasting influence on that approach. Complex fight choreography often evolved on location rather than being locked down in advance, teaching Andy to think quickly on set and adapt the VFX approach to the way the director and stunt team wanted to work.
His background in compositing, design and VFX art direction also informs the creative side of his supervision. He has led design teams developing environments, creatures and heightened worlds, including collaborations with Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin on Moulin Rouge!, Australia and The Great Gatsby.
